Landscape / Cityscape

If street photography is being on the inside looking about and out, cityscape and landscape work is being on the outside looking in. Establishing shots allow us to get sense of place but not a sense of space. We can survey from afar and fantasize that we’re of a thing, but given enough distance we can pretend only; the penultimate observer. I like landscapes, and they’re by far my best sellers but I shoot them mostly because they’re required to tell the entire story of a place. The soul of a place, for me, is on the inside where the wheels and gears are actually moving about.

“It’s more important for a photographer to have very good shoes, than to have a very good camera”Sebastião Salgado
